This educational symposium is aimed at medical trainees and consultants in clinical genetics, genetic counsellors, clinical and research scientists and other interested clinicians. Since the first symposium in 2016, much has happened in the field of genome-based therapeutics and now is an excellent time for an update! Our invited external speakers will provide state-of-the art updates in their respective areas, all the way from basic science to clinical trials and beyond to mainstream clinical usage of novel genetic therapies.

Topics to include:

  • Ups and downs of CF gene therapy - Prof. Uta Griesenbach, Imperial College London

  • Making Gene and Cell therapies happen in the UK - Dr Kerstin Papenfuss, Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult, London

  • Oligonucleotide therapies for DMD and SMA - Dr Mariacristina Scoto, University College London

  • Gene therapy for motor neurone disorders - Prof. Dame Pamela Shaw, University of Sheffield

  • Treatment of mitochondrial disorders - Dr Victoria Nesbitt, Oxford Rare Mitochondrial Diseases Service
